Here is a little trick I came up with to help my daughter understand perimeter in Math Level 2. She was having trouble understanding the concept that perimeter is adding each side to find the total distance around the object. So, we drew a car in the bottom left corner and said that the car is going on a 4-day trip. Days 1 and 2 go in the first 2 blanks (after she traces from one corner to the next), and she adds those days together. Then she does the same for days 3 and 4 and adds those together. Then she adds the first half of trip to the second half of the trip to find the total distance the car drove on the trip. And that's the perimeter!
